New York cop who killed suspect’s father is back in court

New York Police Department detective Frank Salerno has been charged with murder in the killing of a father of two.

The New York Post reported Wednesday that Salerno, 42, pleaded not guilty.

He is accused of killing Frank Saledo, a 43-year-old father of three, during an early morning raid in Queens, New York, on March 18, 2016.

Salerno was fired from the NYPD after an internal affairs investigation determined he violated department policies by not following department protocol in the days after the killing, the Post said.

Saleno’s lawyer told the Post that he has not had a hearing on the case.

He declined to comment further.

Salero, who has been on paid administrative leave since May 16, was one of two officers involved in the raid on the Saledo residence in the early morning hours.

The other officer was identified by The New York Times as Nicholas Rizzo.

Saleros was placed on administrative leave after his arrest, the NYPD said.

A federal civil rights lawsuit filed by the family of the father of Salerno’s daughter alleges that Salero’s actions violated department policy, and that Saleros failed to provide appropriate information and that he retaliated against the family for speaking out about his misconduct.

The suit claims that Salera’s conduct violates a federal law that prohibits the use of force against a suspect if it’s “reasonable and necessary” to prevent death or great bodily harm, according to the Post.

The lawsuit alleges that the department failed to protect the Saledones from Salerno because of a lack of cooperation from the city’s police commissioner, and from the police department’s internal affairs division, which investigated Salerno.

The lawsuit also alleges that he also retaliated because he was a minority man.

The department has said that the decision to fire Salerno stemmed from a series of complaints about him, including one that alleged that he lied in a sworn affidavit regarding a conversation with the father.

Salera was arrested by federal agents in January after he allegedly killed the father and his wife, who were shot in the head during a domestic dispute, the New York Daily News reported.

The family said Salerno had a history of violence against his ex-wife and children, including the murder of his father.

In a statement, the family’s attorney, Daniel Filippi, said that Salario had been working as a police officer since 2006, and had been a partner for five years.

The family also filed a lawsuit in New York City, seeking unspecified damages.
