Police say a man was arrested and charged with hitting and killing a woman and her child after she stopped at a gas station to get a refill.
Police say the woman was walking from a gas pump in the 1800 block of South Hester Street to the gas station at the corner of South Charles Avenue in the Belmont section of Baltimore City.
They say a vehicle pulled up and the driver, 26-year-old Matthew J. Harkins, sped away.
Harkins was arrested at his residence on charges of murder and malicious wounding of a child, and was being held on $250,000 bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center, police said.
The suspect is believed to be an ex-convict from West Baltimore, police have said.
The victim’s name has not been released.
