A Florida man has been charged with murder after allegedly murdering his wife’s family member in their home, ABC News has learned.
The Gainesville Sun reported Friday that the man, Joseph J. Johnson, 43, is being held without bond in the Orange County Jail after allegedly shooting his wife, Ashley, at her house.
An Orange County grand jury indicted Johnson, who was charged in a lawsuit filed against him last year, on murder charges Friday.
A family member of the victim told investigators that Ashley was in the back bedroom with Johnson when he fired, hitting her in the chest and stomach, according to court documents.
The family member told investigators Johnson fired several shots in the air, hitting his wife in the head and neck, the documents said.
Johnson was arrested and charged with the aggravated murder of his wife.
He is being detained in the jail in the case, according the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Johnson is due in court on Dec. 8.
The family member who first reported the incident to authorities was identified as Ashley’s sister.
