A detective who was inspired by the animated characters of the Pokemon anime has launched a sequel to the popular cartoon series.
According to Japanese online news site Daisaku Ikeda, the detective Pikachu is being written by Takashi Miike and directed by Katsuyuki Fujiwara.
Miike previously wrote the manga series Detective Pikachu and has since gone on to work on the live-action remake.
The anime series was developed by Sunrise, and aired on Tokyo MX in 1997.
Since then, the franchise has spawned dozens of spin-offs, with the most recent of which was a film last year.
